What We Do
Marafiki Arts identifies disadvantaged communities and provides training to create opportunities for renewable sources of income. We work with knitters, weavers, printers, dyers, textile manufacturers, designers, artists and agriculturalists, such as cotton growers and sheep farmers, to develop the raw goods for production. We then facilitate collaboration between artists and designers in the United States, and youth, community groups and artists in Kenya to produce textiles and works of art that can be sold in the global marketplace. The sales provide support for continuing our mission. Marafiki’s efforts in Kenya are part of the African Growth Opportunity Act (AGOA) and the national agenda for reviving the textile industry in Kenya.
Building self reliance, preserving culture, cultivating creativity, developing products, producing high-end textile goods for local and export markets is how Marafiki generates income to support its mission and to provide opportunity for the economically challenged segments. Marafiki’s efforts in Kenya are part of the African Growth Opportunity Act (AGOA) and the national agenda to revive the textile industry in Kenya.
